Ruby & Pickles supperclub 16.6.16-Review written by Colin Mordi, founder of The Food Sauce

For those of you who enjoy eating authentic Asian infused dishes I suggest you get yourself down to a Ruby & Pickles supper club event ASAP!

I’m not talking about the kind of curries served at your local curry houses or in takeaway boxes I’m talking proper cooked food with that homemade touch.

As that is what both Sareta & Jasel founders of Ruby & Pickles seemed to have created so far on their journey.

Both are passionate cooks who love creative but unfussy foods.

Each month they explore a different culinary these whilst at the same time always drawing on both of their eastern heritage which we feel here at Sauce HQ is a wonderful idea as it helps spread variety whilst at the same time maintaining the initial theme.

The Ruby & Pickles supperclub took place at The Joker of Penton St located in Islington – just a stone throw away from Angel tube station.

From location choice right through to venue and menu these women did not disappoint as they aimed to put their eastern twist on the dishes from across the Mediterranean and OMG they did just that.

Hot and fresh out the kitchen was the Birycini balls- that were their special twist on Italian risotto balls arancini made with Indian spices and vegetable rice.

Followed by spiced olives, Turkish pide bread and homemade chili oil. Every supperclub will also feature the all-important pickle of the month which forms part of their identity as well as it compliments the dishes very well. This time it was a spicy yet zesty lemon pickle.

To quench diners thirst was a nimbu pani, which is a cooling North Indian lemon and mint drink refreshing.

The mains too were a very healthy selection as it was a mixture of salad and fruit such as watermelon, feta and mint salad; spicy carrot salad; potato salad with lime and coriander; and green leafy salad.

Sareta & Jasel are two self-motivated and enthusiastic individuals, which are shown in their dishes as well as the overall presentation of their events. These two are on to a very good concept with the right combination of dishes as well as collaborations with other brands they could take the London supperclub scene by storm.
