What was the inspiration for starting Superfood Bakery?
About a year ago we were fasting and struggled to find sweet things that would taste good and be natural. Every day, we would try baking vegan treats we found on blogs. but they always tasted like clay and we wasted a lot of money on expensive ingredients. So one day, we thought that it would be cool to have a healthy pre-made mix that would deliver guaranteed results and taste good. Because of this idea, we started calling health shops across the UK, asking them whether their customers would like such product and saw a lot of enthusiasm. Because of our research, we discovered that there was demand for gluten-free, completely natural baking mixes. Until finally, we launched in September, quickly grew to 38 stockists, among them some of the best independent health shops in London like Portobello Wholefoods, Earth Natural Foods and a small chain Eat 17.
Describe a typical day at Superfood Bakery HQ?
There is no standard day at Superfood Bakery HQ. Every day is different and presents different challenges. We are a small team of 3 and we do everything ourselves: packaging orders, arranging samplings, calling up new customers, marketing, shooting photos for Instagram and many other things! We start our day with a 30min catch up of what needs to be done, then we make phone calls and respond to emails. Then we have lunch and work on content for the website and newsletters. In the afternoon we make some more phone calls and prepare orders for dispatch next morning. We also work on Saturdays: we wake up, bake a few batches of cookies and head to our samplings!
Where do you see Superfood Bakery in 5 years time?
We have a vision for growing our product range, opening our own bakery and publishing our cookbook! Hopefully, we will get there in 5 years time! In the next year, our focus will be on getting our brand stocked by a few national supermarket chains and growing our community of Superfood Bakers to 20,000 people!
What do you think are the 3 biggest food trends of 2017?
We think that vegan food is definitely a big 2017 trend. Also, drinkable breakfasts on the go and meal replacers (like Soylent).
What do you like to eat?
Yogurt with fruit for breakfast, buckwheat with salad for lunch, our Glow Makers cookies or Bliss Balls for a quick snack and baked fish or chicken for dinner!
