What do you think will be the 3 biggest food trends of 2017?
- a) Healthy convenience. More people than ever before are seeking out healthier choices, but alongside this, our lives are getting busier and busier. We predict that the search for healthy ‘fast food’ will grow, as consumers seek options that are genuinely convenient for them. As much aswe all like the idea of having the time to spend hours in the kitchen making everything from scratch, most of us just don’t have the time to do this every day. That’s why we launched the Neat Nutrition cafe. It gives people the healthy choice they’re seeking, even when they’re running from one appointment to the next.
- b) The protein boom: Obviously we are going to say this, but with good reason, honestly! We do believe that the demand of protein and supplements will only continue to grow along with awareness of its benefits. People are beginning to realise that it is not a product solely used for muscle building or ‘bulking’ and that it is actually an essential part of our diet. Not only have protein powders and supplements made their way onto mainstream shelves, the ingredients are also in energy balls, bars, shakes, porridge, pancake mix – the list goes on! Expect to see protein products, snack and drinks not just at health stores, but also at larger supermarkets, convenience stores and coffee shops.
- c) Charcoal food. This is a trend that’s already taken off, but we can’t see it going anywhere just yet! Instagram trends aside, activated charcoal really does have its health benefits. This is because it’s the by-product of burning coconut shells, wood, or other plant materials. The charcoal is considered “activated” due to its negative charge, which means it supposedly has the capacity to bind positively, charged ions (such as chemicals) together, removing them from the body. This property has prompted charcoal to be touted as the latest detox ingredient, which is why you can already see it on a host of menus. We’re offering charcoal juices at the Neat cafe, and watch this space for more!
What do you like to eat/drink?
We’re all about balance at Neat so our food choices tend to reflect that. We’re both big eaters so breakfast is a must and it almost always includes eggs and avocados! We spend a lot of time crossing London for meetings – much like a lot of people in the city – which is why the food in the Neat Café is designed to be healthy and easy to eat on the go. The Sweet Like Chocolate Smoothie at the Neat Café is the perfect 3pm boost to keep us going until dinner, which is usually something quick like grilled fish and rice. It’s great to wind down after a long week with a few beers and reflect on everything that’s happening with the business.
