Coffee. Butter. Oil.
OK so those ingredients don’t really tick traditional boxes for a balanced breakfast but together they are the three components you need to make a Bulletproof coffee.
What’s all that about? Word is that this hyper-efficient and power-packed coffee is full of life-changing benefits including triggering weight loss (by means of ketosis); killing cravings; and boosting cognitive function.
“Why eat a muffin that goes straight to your muffin top, the thinking goes, when you could drink down the metabolic equivalent of supercharged battery acid every morning?”
Putting butter in coffee definitely sounds odd but it’s really not that crazy if you look around. Ethiopians have been enjoying butter in their coffee for centuries, and in Tibet, yak butter tea, or Tibetan Tea, is a time-honoured, much-loved, traditional drink.
Advocates of Bulletproof coffee claim that not only is it satisfying (we’re not convinced – maybe if was maple butter?) but that it kills hunger much more than a regular coffee and that starting the day with healthy fats also improves energy, productivity and overall mood.
Is this really a magical drink that will fix everything from bad moods, low energy and weight gain? Fact or fad, one thing is certain – BPC is creating a frothy storm.
